Vietnam has an interesting mix of seasons - in the north, there are 4 distinct seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
However, the south of the country actually only has 2 seasons: Rainy and Dry.
Deciding on when to visit and what to expect from the weather depends entirely on where you're going to visit.
The best time to visit North Vietnam is during the Spring (Mar - Apr) or Autumn (Sept - Nov).
The best time to visit South Vietnam is during the Dry season (Dec - Apr).
So, if you're planning to visit the whole country, the best time of year would be around late Nov/early Dec, or Mar/Apr time.
