Laos has 2 main seasons: Rainy from late May - October and Dry from November - early May.
The Dry season sees the most tourists, with reliably sunny days - even if they are very hot and humid! Jan is the coolest month and May is the hottest, with temperatures often exceeding 30ºC (86ºF).
Rainy season (sometimes called 'monsoon season'), brings heavy downpours - although typically only during the afternoons. The upside is that Laos is at it's most picturesque during Rainy season, with lush and green countryside views and flowing waterfalls!
Avoid the peak months by visiting during 'shoulder seasons' to enjoy fewer crowds, better hotel prices, and to reduce the strain of tourism on this developing country - it's a win-win!
